Volume 3: This is how you do a newsletter
A note from me
G’day you mob,
Thought I’d try something a little different with this newsletter. Think of it less like “news” and more like an artistic expression.
As I rebrand out of Acknowledge This into Modern Custodian, a lot of questions come up: What does the brand look like now? How do I share content without losing myself in the process?
For context: I’ve got two Instagram accounts, a LinkedIn, a website, and now this newsletter. In the past, I’d design content separately for each community, adjusting the tone like I was wearing different masks. LinkedIn-Rhys is tidy and professional. The_wholesome_yamatji Insta is... riskier.
But while drafting this, I realised something: instead of tailoring everything outward, why not bring it all back here? Why not make the newsletter the home base (the authentic source) and then let snippets ripple out to the other platforms?
Here’s another way to think of it: what you’re reading here is my most authentic self. My kid self (we all have one). It’s playful. It’s artistic. It’s meaningful. It’s a bit mysterious. And yes - there are easter eggs hidden in here if you look closely.
For the record:
V0.01 was scrap paper.
V0.02 was scrapbook.
V0.03 is this - shaped with the sharp eyes of Captain Kate, who makes sure it’s palatable enough to pass as a “brand” while still letting me sound like... well, me.
This whole thing was a passion project. I might keep doing newsletters like this. I might not. Like everything in the Season 5 Rhys arc, it’s an experiment.
Take this seriously, but not too seriously.
